LamaTama HQ

Everything LamaTama, in one place.

LamaTama are pocket-size electronic fortune tellers from NSI. Ask a yes-or-no question out loud and yours nods for yes or shakes its head for no. Here is how they work, every character in every series, and which ones are rare.

  • 🔮 48 characters in Series 1 to 4
  • ✨ Rare ones: 1 in 100 boxes
  • 🔋 Battery included

The basics

What is a LamaTama?

A LamaTama is a small electronic figure, about 2.3 inches (6 cm) tall, made by NSI International in New York. It listens for a yes-or-no question and answers by moving its face: a nod for yes, a shake for no.

Each one is sealed in a 20-sided blind box, so you find out which character you have when you open it. Every series has 12 characters. In Series 1, 2 and 3, one of them is much harder to find than the rest.

We carry LamaTama in our shop in Grants Pass, Oregon, make display thrones for them and run the Lama Tama Club for collectors. This page is everything we know, checked against NSI’s own guide and instruction sheet.

In every box

  • 1 LamaTama
  • 1 lanyard
  • 1 sticker
  • 1 CR2032 battery, already inside

How it works

Wake it, ask it, watch it answer

  1. Wake it up

Press the button on the back. Your LamaTama is now listening.

  2. Ask a yes-or-no question

It nods for yes or shakes its head for no. It can answer one question every 2 seconds.

  3. Keep it quiet

A LamaTama does not answer in loud places. If yours is ignoring you, move somewhere quieter and ask again.

  4. Sleep and off

After 30 seconds without a question it goes to sleep. Press the back button to wake it. To turn it off, press the button: the face moves down and it switches off.

Battery and care

One coin cell keeps it talking

Every LamaTama comes with one CR2032 3V coin cell battery already inside, and the battery can be replaced.

To change it, open the battery cover with a small Phillips screwdriver and put in a new CR2032 with the flat + side facing out. Take a dead battery out of the toy and dispose of it right away.

⚠ WARNING: This product contains a coin cell battery. A swallowed coin cell battery can cause internal chemical burns in as little as two hours and lead to death. Dispose of used batteries immediately. Keep new and used batteries away from children. If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.

Quick fixes

  • Not answering? Press the back button. It sleeps after 30 seconds.
  • Still quiet? Try a quieter room.
  • Wait 2 seconds between questions.
  • Nothing at all? The battery may need replacing.

Questions

LamaTama questions, answered

What is a LamaTama?

A LamaTama is a pocket-size electronic fortune teller made by NSI International. Ask it a yes-or-no question out loud and it nods for yes or shakes its head for no. Each one comes sealed in a 20-sided blind box with a lanyard and a sticker.

Can I choose which character I get?

No. Every LamaTama is sealed in a blind box and packed at random, so you find out which one you have when you open it. Repeats can happen.

How many LamaTama characters are there?

There are 48 in the regular line: 12 each in Series 1, 2, 3 and 4. Lama Tama Ultra Series 1 adds 12 more that are not in the regular series.

Which LamaTama are rare?

NSI’s collector’s guide lists one rare character in each of the first three series, at 1 in every 100 boxes: Itza (gold) in Series 1, Babaloo (silver) in Series 2 and Kiki (see-through blue) in Series 3. Lama Tama Ultra has a see-through purple chase, packed one to a case.

Why isn’t my LamaTama answering?

Check three things. It may be asleep: it goes to sleep after 30 seconds without a question, so press the button on the back. The room may be too loud: a LamaTama does not answer in noisy places. And it needs 2 seconds between questions. If it still does nothing, the battery may need replacing.

What battery does a LamaTama use?

One CR2032 3V coin cell. It comes installed, and you can replace it by opening the battery cover with a small Phillips screwdriver. Keep coin cell batteries away from children.

How do I turn a LamaTama off?

Press the button on the back. The face moves down and it switches off. It also goes to sleep by itself after 30 seconds without a question.

What is Lama Tama Ultra?

Lama Tama Ultra is a separate series made for specialty toy stores through Toysmith. Series 1 has 12 characters that are not in the regular series, one of them a rare see-through purple chase. It comes out in mid-November 2026.
